Before you make an Application

If you are thinking of submitting a planning application, the first step is to assess whether your development proposal falls within the ambit of the Development Corporation or Thurrock Council.

The types of development that are determined by the Development Corporation are set out in The Thurrock Development Corporation (Planning Functions) Order 2005 (new window).All other types of planning application should be submitted to Thurrock Council (new window).

If you are unsure as to the applicable planning authority for your development proposal please contact the Development Corporation to discuss the issue with a planning officer.

Having determined that the Development Corporation is the relevant planning authority for your development proposal it is sensible, prior to submitting your application to:

• contact a planning officer at the Development Corporation to discuss your proposal;
• contact Thurrock Council for any historical or background information they may have regarding the site and;
• consult the Development Corporation and Thurrock Council websites for the latest information on current or past applications and sites throughout the Borough.

Once you are in a position to submit your planning application you should send your completed application form, accompanying information and applicable fee to:
