Planning
Since late 2005 the Development Corporation has been responsible
for deciding certain types of planning applications (usually
larger, strategic applications and all those related to listed
buildings) within the Borough of Thurrock. In 2010, the Secretary
of State announced that the Development Corporation would close on
31 March 2012 and that its planning powers would
revert to Thurrock Council.
The Development Corporation will continue to receive and decide
those applications that are its responsibility until the
end of March 2012. The types of planning
application which the Development Corporation remain the
determining authority for can be found in the
Thurrock Development Corporation (Planning Functions) Order
2005 (opens in a new window).
Any application still with the Development Corporation
on 31 March 2012 and not determined will be transferred to Thurrock
Council. Applicants, agents, consultees and third parties who have
an interest in such applications do not need to take any action.
All information and representations received by the
Development Corporation will be transferred to Thurrock
Council.
It is proposed that the Development Corporation’s Planning
Team will be transferred to Thurrock Council which will
continue to process any applications that it inherits.
The Development Corporation and Thurrock Council are working
together to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Further information will be made available on these
pages when it is known and via the respective pages on
Thurrock
Council's website (opens in a new window).
