Planning On the 12th October 2005 the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation (TTGDC) became the strategic development control authority for the whole of the Borough of Thurrock. TTGDC is largely responsible for deciding larger strategic applications, and will be assisted by Thurrock Council. Minor proposals, including all householder development will continue to be dealt with by Thurrock Council. The thresholds above which applications which will be determined by TTGDC are described in Article 3 of "The Thurrock Development Corporation (Planning Functions) Order 2005". When considering planning applications TTGDC will take account of national, regional and local plans and policies, as well as other relevant material considerations. Thurrock Council is currently preparing a 'Local Development Framework', which in time will become the statutory plan for the area. In the meantime, however, TTGDC has prepared a 'Regeneration Framework' and a 'Spatial Plan'. In addition TTGDC is preparing local area master plans for (a) Purfleet, (b) Lakeside/West Thurrock, (c) Grays Town Centre, (d) Aveley & South Ockendon and (e) Tilbury. These documents, which will be the subject to public consultation, are aimed at securing a comprehensive framework to bring about the sustainable growth and regeneration of Thurrock. |
