Aveley and South Ockendon
South Ockendon is a sizeable town lying just east of the M25 and
north of the A13, with both residential and industrial areas. A
historic village, it was much enlarged and changed when the large
Belhus estate was built there post-war. Aveley is a small town to
the west of the M25. It has a long history dating to the Middle
Ages, evident for example in the old St Michael’s
church. Belhus Park, an area of 18th century parkland
separates Aveley from South Ockendon.
Our plans for these communities aim to preserve their
traditional character while bringing new life to the area and so
ensuring they are sustainable and that a range of jobs as well as
quality facilities are available to local people.
Town centre regeneration will give South Ockendon a new retail
destination and health and community facilities. The station will
be more closely linked to the centre with access to
local amenities, introducing new cycle lanes and pedestrian
access. Plans include a vision for new parks that will increase the
area’s total parkland by 40 per cent.
