Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation Celebrates Five Years of Working in the Community

Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation is hosting an evening reception to celebrate five years of working to support local communities through infrastructure projects and our Community Fund.

Many of our Community Fund recipients will be showcasing their talents and work on Monday 28th February 2011, 5.30pm - 8.30pm at the South Essex College, Woodview Campus, Grays.

The total given to community projects in the Community Fund’s five year existence is just over £1million. Organisations such as Theatre IS, Thurrock Harriers, Thurrock Music Services, Thurrock Writers Circle, Thurrock Thames Musical Society and the Thurrock Bowls and Allotment Club have all benefited from the fund and will perform or speak at the event.

The work of community based regeneration initiatives and the achievements of the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation will also be on show at the event.

The Community Fund was established in January 2006 to develop links with the community and to help progress the invaluable work undertaken in the voluntary sector. Around 200 grants have been given to grassroots groups of between £100 and £20,000. In addition the Development Corporation has aided more than a dozen major community infrastructure projects such as the RSPB and Corringham Cycle route with grants totaling around £10 million.

Will McKee, TTGDC’s Chair said: “Our Community Infrastructure Grants and Community Fund have helped lots of people across Thurrock and I am delighted to be hosting a celebration of its contribution.

“As you will see the community of Thurrock has a lot to offer and we are delighted to have helped in the way that we have.”
