Purfleet Centre Development Framework

The Corporation's June 2007 Purfleet Masterplan (PDF, new window, 3.8MB) proposed that a new centre of Purfleet is created to provide a clear focus for the area. This included new areas for employment and retail, new homes, a new primary school, open space and new health and community centre.

The Corporation undertook a public consultation from 16th July to 28th August 2009 to inform the local residents and businesses of the draft Purfleet Centre Development Framework document and seek their views. This draft document provided further details, information and visuals of how the final development would look.

This public consultation consisted of two parts. The first was the delivery of over 3,300 public consultation brochures and letters to households, businesses and stakeholders within the local area inviting comments and feedback on the latest proposals.

The second was a public exhibition held between 21st and 25th July 2009 for any individual who required further information or had questions for the team regarding the development proposals.

The results of the public consultation showed strong support for the Corporation’s proposals and in September 2009, the Corporation adopted the Purfleet Centre Development Framework. This provides the blueprint for the planned physical urban regeneration to support the delivery of a new centre for Purfleet.  This Framework now forms the Corporations formal planning policy document for the area.

The Opportunity

The Corporations proposals provide for approximately

• 3,500 new homes

•  40,000m2 of employment space

• 10,000m2 of retail space

• Community uses, including a new additional health centre, and 3-form primary school

• New public open space and enhanced access to the River Thames

• Reconfigured railway station

• A new central square and High Street through Botany Quarry

The Purfleet Centre Development Framework provides a strong and robust document for the delivery of comprehensive regeneration in Purfleet and the creation of a well planned, sustainable mixed-use community.
