Lakeside Single Issue Review
Following adoption of the East
of England Plan in May 2008 (Regional Spatial Strategy), an
immediate review of Policy ETG2 concerning Thurrock Key Centre for
Development and Change is in progress, undertaken by the East of
England Regional Assembly (EERA) on behalf of the Secretary of
State.
The objective is to deliver a
robust strategic planning framework to guide the sustainable
mixed-use regeneration and redevelopment of Lakeside Basin. The
review is assessing:
- the need for, and impact of, further retail and leisure
development
- how Lakeside can provide greater employment skills and
increased inward investment
- more sustainable movement patterns, and
- whether Lakeside Basin should be designated as a major town
centre.
The Secretary of State has decided
that an Examination in Public (EiP) will be held to access the
proposed draft policy. The EiP will commence on 20
July 2009 and will be held at Thurrock Hotel, Ship Lane, Aveley,
Essex, RM19 1YN. The final policy should be determined by the end
of the year. For further details on the EiP please
visit The Planning Inspectorate website (new
