London Gateway - DP World

DP World is developing a deep‐water port and associated landside
business and industrial functions at London Gateway. The port will
be the most fully automated and efficient in the UK, adding an
additional 3.5 million TEU (standard twenty foot equivalent cargo
units – containers) to the nation’s port capacity. It will comprise
up to seven container vessel berths and a roll‐on roll‐off facility
along 2.7km of quayside. The port will become a national hub port
for the UK accommodating the world’s largest container ships.
In addition to the port itself, permission has also been granted
for an adjoining Logistics Centre and Business Park that will
utilise the rest of the landside brownfield site of the
decommissioned oil refinery. The Logistics Centre and Business Park
will offer 9.5 million sq ft for distribution, manufacturing and
high tech sectors (with individual units in excess of one million
sq ft.).
A critical role for the public sector is to ensure that the
transport infrastructure requirements are met. The East Thurrock
Master Plan proposes a number of further road improvements
associated with the London Gateway, including:
• A13/A128 capacity improvements;
• Manorway (A13 and A1014) junction works, traffic signals and
noise mitigation;
• rebuilding Sorrells roundabout with capacity upgrades and
landscaping; and,
• upgrading to the railway branch line.
