Setting out the vision: Our Master Plan for Lakeside and West
Thurrock was published in 2008.
Making the case for Lakeside: We play a vital role in the future
of existing sites like Lakeside. We have developed an exciting
vision for this key retail and leisure site and are doing all we
can to ensure it gets approval.
With our partners, we have set out the case for quality
expansion at Lakeside in a document which is currently being
reviewed by the East of England Regional Assembly, which sets the
overall strategy for the region. The Assembly aims to revise the
regional spatial strategy by early 2010.
Planning new homes: We have bought a number of major sites in
the South Stifford area in West Thurrock, where we plan a riverside
residential development which will give local people the quality
homes they need. These include plans for a major residential
site with over 1,200 units. We have acquired land at Fiddlers
Reach, on the riverside and another site at Schoolfield Road in
Lakeside and West Thurrock to provide many homes closer to
amenities so that residents need not rely so much on cars. Both
residential developments will produce a number of good quality
family houses and apartments. The Fiddlers Reach site is currently
being decontaminated and prepared for development. A study is being
undertaken to consider how development on the site can be
phased.
