Foreword

This is an exciting time for Thurrock. In October 2003, the Government established a new Development Corporation (DC) to drive forward regeneration and accommodate the Borough's housing and economic growth.

Working with a wide range of local and regional partners, our arrival means that Thurrock now has the opportunity and funding to achieve real change. Thurrock Thames Gateway DC is determined to:

• Create new employment opportunities, enabling local people to access jobs;
• Ensure new housing, leisure and social facilities are available, to encourage people to live and work in the area;
• Bring land and buildings into effective use;
• Provide new infrastructure connecting Thurrock's diverse communities;
• Deliver an attractive urban and rural environment, focusing on access and high quality design

Specifically, we have been tasked by Government to help create the right conditions that will generate and support the development of new homes and jobs, in the period up to 2021. We will achieve this through carefully targeted strategic and local interventions and by creating a thriving climate of investment across the Borough.

We believe, Thurrock Thames Gateway DC will have a dramatic impact on Thurrock, improving the quality of life for new and existing communities, laying the foundations for Thurrock's economic success and sharing in the regeneration and growth of the Thames Gateway.
