Thurrock is changing fast as Government targets require 26,000 new jobs and 18,500 new homes here by 2021. Our strategy and that of Thurrock Council’s seek not only to meet these targets but also to make Thurrock a location of choice for business.

Thurrock is home to a number of international brands which offer employment opportunities and boost the local economy. Some key companies in Thurrock are listed below.

 

 

 

 

Dubai Ports has chosen Thurrock as the site for the UK’s major new deep-sea container port and business park, London Gateway.

  

The Forth Ports Group runs the Port of Tilbury in Thurrock.

 

Lakeside Shopping Centre is the home of many of the UK’s best-known retail brands. With over 250 stores it is one of Europe’s largest shopping destinations.

 

Petroplus, Europe’s leading independent refiner, operates a refinery here.

 

Procter & Gamble has its main UK base in Thurrock, with millions of household products arriving from Europe for distribution to UK supermarkets.

 

The Royal Opera House is locating all its set production in Purfleet.

   

RWE npower, part of the global RWE energy group, operates Tilbury Power.

   

Unilever UK Foods manufactures many well known household brands in Purfleet, where it employs around 300 people.

   

Uniserve, the largest British privately owned international freight and logistics company in the UK operates in Thurrock.

   

Veolia Environmental Services, the UK’s leading waste management company, with operations throughout the UK, mainland Europe and the world, works with Thurrock Council. 

   

Vertex, the customer management arm of United Utilities PLC manages services such as human resources, business accounting and payroll services for Thurrock Council.

   Vopak, the world’s largest provider of conditioned storage facilities for bulk liquids, has a leading independent terminal in Thurrock.
   Wincanton Europe's leading logistics operator is also based in Thurrock.
